José Caraballo Cueto

José Caraballo Cueto is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey. Dr. Caraballo Cueto completed his Ph.D. in Economics at The New School for Social Research, specializing in Development Studies. In addition to his work at the Observatory, he is a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Research Institute (UPR-Cayey) and the Director of Puerto Rico’s Census Information Center.

Previously, Caraballo Cueto has researched economic development through fellowships at the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, Princeton University, Filantropía PR, and other institutions. Dr. Caraballo Cueto is a published author and has written 11 peer-reviewed articles published in international journals, as well as over 90 non-peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, he has been an invited speaker at over 60 conferences worldwide, including at the United Nations, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and Yale University. In 2019, the education journal Diverse: Issues in Higher Education named Dr. Caraballo Cueto an Emerging Scholar.

In the past, Dr. Caraballo Cueto served as President of the Puerto Rico Economics Association.
